Refinement of coordinates of Halley's comet with allowance for displacement of optical center relative to cometary center of mass
Abstract
A method is developed for taking into account the deviation of the optical center of Comet Halley from its mass center, and a comparison is made with comet positions determined by TV observations from the Vega probe. Results show that the proposed method improves the accuracy of comet position determination by almost an order of magnitude. The comet positions can be determined with an error not exceeding 100 km.
