Electromagnetic-wave second-harmonic generation in resonant plasma layers
Abstract
The paper examines the second harmonic generation (SHG) of a TM wave in a thin parabolic cold-plasma layer under the condition that the plasma resonance point at the first or second harmonic lies near the plasma-concentration maximum. In the first case, if collisions are sufficiently small, the SHG at the plasma-concentration maximum significantly exceeds in terms of efficiency the SHG in monotonic plasma layers. In the second case, the highest second-harmonic amplitude is of the same order of magnitude as in sharply monotonic layers.
