Effective simplification of equations for the amplitude moments of normal modes in randomly inhomogeneous waveguides
Abstract
Simplified equations are derived for the first and second moments of mode amplitudes in refractive irregular waveguides with arbitrary smooth refractive-index profiles. Cases of refractive-index fluctuations and a rough boundary are examined, and some general consequences of the derived equations are analyzed.
