Synthesis of sources of Brillouin beams with compensated aberrations
Abstract
A method for the synthesis of sources of relativistic laminar charged-particle beams is developed which is based on the paraxial expansion of equations of the self-consistent electrodynamics of irrotational flows. The method involves the analysis and elimination of aberrations by the proper selection of the shape of the emitting surface. The characteristics of sources of Brillouin electron beams with an energy of 0.5 MeV are investigated for a special geometry of the focusing magnetic field. It is shown that, to compensate aberrations, the curvature of the emitter should decrease rapidly with distance from the axis of the system.
