Local-density approach for calculation of electron-positron enhancement in transition metals
Abstract
A theoretical approach for treating electron-positron correlation in transition metals is presented and applied in calculations of positron-annihilation spectra. It explains the relative ``deenhancement'' of the annihilation rate of electrons at the top of the d band, as has been observed earlier in experimental spectra of Ni by Singh et al. The enhancement is calculated and comparisons with various experimental data show improved agreement over conventional independent-particle calculations. The relative strength of the observable enhancement appears to be a function of the d-band occupation (3d as well as 4d) because of the relative localization of the d electrons.
