A chirally invariant fermionic field theory for nuclear matter
Abstract
We present a chiral field theory for nuclear matter purely based on fermionic degrees of freedom. The Nambu-Jona-Lasinio symmetry breaking mechanism is applied in order to obtain a nonvanishing density dependent effective mass of the nucleon. The equation of state is studied at zero temperature. It saturates only if a higher-order scalar-vector fermion self-interaction is included.
