Measurement of Some Charm Particle Decay Branching Ratios.
Abstract
Available from UMI in association with The British Library. Requires signed TDF. Charm data obtained by the NA27 experiment at CERN in 360GeV/c pi^-p and 400GeV/c pp interactions are used to give results on D meson branching ratios. The experiment made use of the European Hybrid Spectrometer, incorporating a high resolution hydrogen bubble chamber (LEBC) which enabled spatial resolution of charm particle decays, and a dE/dx sampling detector (ISIS) which provided high-quality charged particle identification. The analysis is based on 440 events containing visible charm decays. Results on the topological branching ratios are presented, as well as the following inclusive branching ratios of D mesons into charged kaons: BR(D^ {+/-} to K ^{+/-} + anything) = 0.17 +/- 0.07, BR(D^ {+/-} to K ^{+/-} + anything) = 0.08_sp{-0.05}{+0.06} , BR(D^circ to K^- + anything) = 0.39_sp{-0.08}{+0.09} , BR(D^circ to K^+ + anything) = 0.03_sp{-0.02}{+0.05} , and the following semielectronic branching ratios of D mesons: BR(D^{+/-} to e^{+/- } + anything) = 0.20_sp{ -0.07}{+0.09}, BR(D^ circ to e^ {+/-} + anthing) = 0.15 +/- 0.05. A search is made for a D^circ - D^circ mixing signal, with a null result. Finally, measurements of exclusive branching ratios are presented for 12 D^circ decay channels and 10 D^{+/-} decay channels.
