Transition from harmonic behavior to chaos during the interference of plane waves in a nonlinear medium
Abstract
Numerical simulation demonstrates the possibility of the transition from simple harmonic behavior to chaos during the interference of plane waves in media with a nonlinear refractive index. The simulation results are confirmed by an experiment involving the splitting of radiation from a YAG:Nd(3+) laser and the interference of the resulting beams in silicon or gallium arsenide.
