A numerical study of the electrodynamic acceleration of conductors
Abstract
A one-dimensional model is proposed for calculating the electrodynamic acceleration of conductors in high-intensity pulsed magnetic fields with allowance for nonlinear field diffusion into the conductor and a decrease in conductor mass during acceleration. Results of a numerical study of the acceleration of aluminum projectiles in a rail gun and in an electromagnetic accelerator with a magnetization circuit (autotransformer circuit) are reported. The advantages of autotransformer circuits in the case of an intense mass loss due to acceleration are demonstrated.
