Abstract
Until relatively few years ago, random behavior in physical systems was thought to result either from quantum mechanical uncertainties or from simple complexity. The motion of atoms in a Maxwellian gas is an example of the latter process, which on a macro scale we describe only on a statistical basis. The mechanics of turbulent fluids had been another such subject: there were just too many degrees of freedom present to enable a meaningful solution of Navier-Strokes equation.
