Radiation from Cygnus X-3 and the related muon puzzle - an explanation.
Abstract
Recent measurements by various experimental groups have established very firmly that the photoproduced air showers at cosmic-ray energies are not at all muon-poor, as they were believed to be from all standard theoretical calculations. One possibility of its supposedly nonstandard and nonconventional origin was explored, and it is found that the theoretical results for various measured parameters are in astonishing agreement with experimental observations. In essence, this amounts to the removal of all so-called anomalies by induction of a new physical picture about the structure of hadrons and some new insights. This work assumes a special importance in view of the fact that Cygnus muons are believed to be the only challenge to the standard model of quarks and leptons as commented by Gaisser and Halzen (1986).
