Recent evolutionary models for planetary nebulae (PN) predict an extended shell or a halo outside the main nebular shell. This halo originates from the stellar wind of the progenitor. The authors have observed a number of PNe spectroscopically in order to try and detect such halos. They used the emission line intensities to determine halo densities and to estimate the mass loss rates and masses of the progenitor stars.
