The evolution of macrosegregation in statically cast binary ingots
Abstract
A recently developed continuum model has been used to investigate macrosegregation in a statically cast NH4Cl-H2O ingot. Mushy region dendrite erosion and the formation of channel type "A" segregates have, for the first time, been predicted by fully coupling the species conservation equation with equations governing the conservation of energy and momentum. Previous qualitative experimental observations for the NH4Cl−H2O system have been used extensively to verify the present numerical results.
