Large Eddy Simulation of a Turbulent Mixing Layer
Abstract
A timedeveloping turbulent mixing layer is simulated numerically using large eddy simulation. Several statistics such as mean velocity, turbulent energy, velocity skewness and flatness factors, turbulent energy balance, and twopoint correlation functions are computed to get a good agreement with experimental data. Especially, the production and dissipation terms in the turbulent energy equation are shown to be balanced near the center of the layer, and a streaky structure of the streamwise velocity component is also observed.
