Specific heat and magnetic entropy associated with magnetic ordering in Al-rich RAl2 sintered compounds
Abstract
Sintered P/M RAl2 intermetallic Laves-phase compounds (where R is Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er), which are important in Ericsson-type magnetic refrigerators, have been subjected to crystallographic and thermomagnetic measurements. Specific heat and magnetic entropy values are obtained for conditions comparable to those of magnetic refrigerant applications in the temperature range above 10 K. The RAl3-phase contribution to magnetic entropy behavior of RAl2.2 sintered compounds is discussed.
