The flow in a rectangular channel with sudden contraction and expansion
Abstract
LDV was used to investigate turbulent flows with regions of separation ahead of and behind a plane sudden contraction and expansion. It was found that the upstream influence of the sudden contraction and expansion was limited to a region smaller than two times its width. The streamwise velocity profiles were symmetric upstream and asymmetric downstream of the plane of sudden contraction. The velocity overshoot occurring in the gap was consistent with those found previously for the plane sudden contraction.
