Nonlinear Coupling of Galactic Spiral Modes
Abstract
The authors have worked out the nonlinear coupling of modes with different pattern speeds and propose that it explains some salient features of recent galactic simulations. This nonlinear mechanism may provide a new key for understanding the long-term evolution of spirals in galaxies.
