Stellar radius determination from IRAS 12 mu.m fluxes.
Abstract
Angular diameters and radii of nearby late-type stars are determined by the use of IRAS 12-micron measurements and of the surface flux computed with model atmospheres. Comparison of the results with the empirical determinations by the Barnes-Evans relation shows a discrepancy which increases with the color index. Possible sources of a systematic error in the determination presented here as well as in the surface brightness-color index relation of Barnes and Evans are discussed.
