Some considerations on an antenna and a receiver for data relay satellites
Abstract
The development of a multi-beam array S-band antenna has been completed to establish a basic technology of future mobile satellite and intersatellite communications. The multi-beam antenna (MBA) has nineteen fixed beams for the receive function and one steerable beam for transmit phase synthesis within a satellite; the system is suitable for a data relay satellite, mobile communications satellite, etc. Because the receivers are critical components with severe requirements on phase error, a redundant configuration is examined. A single-access S/Ka band antenna is another key for a data relay satellite; whether such an antenna can be applicable to a user satellite in transfer orbit is discussed.
