Analysis of the problem of satellite launch windows for Ariane dual launches
Abstract
Determination of launch windows for Ariane dual launches of geostationary satellites is described. First, the present situation is presented on the basis of the information provided by satellite projects. Then, solutions to reduce window incompatibilities are examined, such as: choice of compatible copassengers, relaxation of satellite constraints, extra satellite propellant consumption, and modification of satellite flight operations in transfer orbit. Finally, a universal launch window is proposed, the definition of which is independent of the launch vehicle trajectory. This launch window may be introduced in the short term in the Ariane User's Manual.
