Performance of circular aperture two step amplitude weighted arrays
Abstract
The performance of circular aperture density weighted arrays with two step amplitudes is studied. An analytical expression for the optimum amplitude quantization is deduced and the relevant geometric interpretation is given. It is assumed that the ideal aperture distributions are sampled from Taylor distributions. Computed results are obtained with a microcomputer. For the circular aperture array of 32 elements across its diameter, the peak sidelobe level is -28.2 dB. If there are 64 elements across its diameter, the peak sidelobe level is -32.2 dB.
