The PB sodium sulfur cell for satellite battery applications
Abstract
A small sealed low-capacity sodium sulfur cell, designated PB cell, which provides a high degree of application flexibility in terms of packaging and load matching, is described. The cell, designated PB cell, provides 10 Ah capacity, which can be extended to 40 Ah to provide a family of sodium sulfur cells, and weighs 115 g. The specific energy and specific power values of PB cells are 174 Wh/kg and 56/kg, respectively. The characteristics of PB cell warrant it for being considered as a candidate battery system for satellite applications.
