Broadband microwave oscillators
Abstract
The theory of the operation of broadband tunable oscillators is briefly examined, and the main requirements to the performance of oscillators used in ECM, ECCM, and ESM systems are discussed. The performance of two implementations of broadband tunable oscillators, YIG and varactor tuned oscillators, is then compared in terms of tuning range and linearity, tuning speed, modulation bandwidth, phase noise, and power. Finally, some improvements are suggested for both kinds of oscillators.
