The INMARSAT Standard-C service
Abstract
A low speed data service for message based communications to small, mobile terminals is presented. The system is configured to provide the user with a cost effective way of sending and receiving messages through either private or public terrestrial communications networks. Store and forward techniques are used at the Earth station providing connection between the INMARSAT satellite network and the terrestrial networks. This approach allows efficient message transfer and provides flexibility for a variety of service interfaces. The user terminal is configured for simple operation, and use of computer-related technology maximizes the facilities available while keeping costs down.
