Turbulence and random processes in fluid mechanics
Abstract
Fundamental concepts of turbulence are explained, and the theories used to describe turbulent flows are presented. Properties of homogeneous fields of turbulence and the application of the concept of isotropy to turbulent flow fields are discussed. The techniques of turbulence modeling are described, together with the closure schemes for spectral theories. Attention is given to the description of the shear flow turbulence structure and to the methods of its measurement. In addition, the kinematic wave theory is presented, and theoretical and experimental results on aerodynamic noise are examined.
