Higher-accuracy methods for solving fluid dynamics problems
Abstract
The construction and verification of third-order implicit compact schemes are discussed. Nonsymmetric compact schemes for one-dimensional transport equations, compact schemes for equations containing diffusive terms, and higher-accuracy algorithms for multidimensional problems are described. The approximation of hyperbolic systems, the dispersive and dissipative properties of third-order approximations for time-dependent problems, and the approximations of equation systems in several spatial coordinates are considered. Examples revealing various uses for the compact schemes are presented. It is noted that the algorithms are applicable to the analysis of incompressible liquid flow and turbulent flows described by semiempirical models.
