Simulating the effects of curvature, free stream turbulence, and transition
Abstract
Attempts to simulate a three-dimensional flow around turbine blades (excluding the film cooling) with a two dimensional, stochastic model of the turbulence problem are reviewed. The change in surface shear stress and heat transfer caused by convex and concave blade curvature is described. Increase in surface heat and friction due to a turbulent free-stream above a laminar or turbulent boundary layer is outlined. Laminar to turbulent boundary layer transition measurement, linear stability analysis, and turbulence modeling are discussed.
