Modeling of turbulent flows in a plane channel on the level of secondorder correlations
Abstract
A linear analysis of inhomogeneous turbulent flow in a plane channel is presented, and a spectral analysis in the two directions of homogeneity is used to study twopoint correlations. The introduction of a Fourier transform permits the reduction of the order of the system of equations to the partial derivatives of the problem, simplifying the numerical calculations. Solution of the Poisson equation for the pressure permits the elimination of the pressurevelocity correlations of the system, leading to the appearance of only the strict number of unknowns of the problem. Particular attention is given to the response function associated with the Poisson equation in different flow geometries and in different representational spaces. Boundary effects are considered.
