Multibeam diffraction-radiation generator, a type of free-electron laser
Abstract
The performance of a multibeam diffraction-radiation generator is investigated experimentally using a mockup of a dual-beam diffraction-radition generator operating in the 8-mm wavelength range. The principles governing the summation of the power of the individual beams are established, and the effect the space charge forces is analyzed. A study is also made of the amplitude and frequency modulation regimes and of the interaction of the electron beams with a finite-amplitude wave field and with the higher harmonics of a periodic structure.
