Vectorization of a multigrid method for the compressible NavierStokes equations
Abstract
An efficient multigrid method for the solution of the compressible NavierStokes equations was described. This algorithm was designed such that the resulting computer program was readily amenable to vectorization. The subsequent process of vectorization is described giving comparisons of scalar and vector timings on a CRAY1S. Of particular interest is the vectorization of the Van Leer flux splitting method, the implementation of which constitutes one of the most time consuming elements in the algorithm. The program is found to run approximately three times faster in vector mode than in scalar mode.
