The cross-section parameters of a cocoon-shaped waveguide (CW) are determined in the case of which a minimum of losses is guaranteed in a specified frequency range. An optimal CW is shown to have lower losses than other types of waveguides. It is concluded that the results obtained can be used to design optimal corrugated CWs for use in microwave systems on the basis of the method of Al'khovskii et al. (1983).
