Synthesis of signals for an optical channel
Abstract
The problem of signal synthesis according to the criterion of minimum mean error-probability of reception (MMER) is formulated and solved for an optical digital channel with random phase. The optimality of orthogonal signals is demonstrated, and the MMER is determined for two signals on a background of thermal noise. The maximum rate of data transmission in an optical channel with random phase and thermal noise is determined.
