Effect of a Power Law Particle Flux on the Ionospheric Incoherent Scattering Cross Section
Abstract
The effect on the incoherent scattering cross section of a suprathermal differential particle flux of the form J(E, θ) = CE^{γ} P(θ) is calculated for integer and halfinteger values of γ, for a pitchangle distribution P(θ) = cosθ^{n} (n integer), and in the case of a scattering geometry with wave vector shift K being parallel to the external magnetic field. As an illustration the theory is applied to calculate the effect on the electron plasma line from a given photoelectron flux.
