Teaching field concept and potential energy at A-level
Abstract
The usual introduction to the field concept in A-level physics appears today to be somewhat half-hearted, and not to do justice to the importance played by the concept in modern physics. The author suggests that there should be greater emphasis on the objective reality of the fields and advocates that the potential energy in a system be regarded as stored in the field rather than in the material bodies of the system, giving reasons for these suggestions.
