Cosmic-ray muon search at Mt. Blanc Laboratory.
Abstract
Experiments in muon physics undertaken at Mt. Blanc Laboratory since 1969 are surveyed. The laboratory facilities and geological data on the site are characterized; the spark-chamber, liquid-scintillation-detector, and nucleon-stability experiments are described in detail; and typical data are presented in graphs. Topics discussed include the characteristics of cosmic-ray muons at Mt. Blanc, the muon vertical-depth/intensity relation, the zenith-angle distribution, muon-stopping experiments, calculation of muon-stopping rates, neutrino interactions, muon bundles, and comparison of Monte Carlo rate calculations with observations.
