Short-period cyclic variations in the lower atmosphere and heliogeophysical processes
Abstract
The current status of the problem of the 27-day cyclicity of the effect of solar activity on the earth's lower atmosphere is examined with emphasis on the factors determining the sign-varying character of this effect. A description is given of the geographical, seasonal, and multiannual features of the manifestation of the 27-day cyclicity in the atmosphere. The feasibility of weather forecasting on the basis of the 27-day variation is considered. The present results are obtained on the basis of archives of daily Ap, C9, and S10.7 indices; data on the IMF sector polarity; atmospheric-circulation data; and air-temperature data.
