Taking into account the horizontal transport in modeling the evolution of the stratospheric aerosol following a volcanic eruption
Abstract
A model describing the formation of the stratospheric aerosol following volcanic eruptions is presented. The model includes a parameterization for the latitudinal and meridional transport of volcanic products. It is shown that the location of the volcanic emission products in the stratosphere and the process of horizontal transport are the main factors determining the efficiency of stratospheric cleaning following a volcanic eruption.
