High-resolution holographic techniques for visualization of surface acoustic waves
Abstract
Material-characterization techniques based on holographic detection of SAWs are discussed. The basic principles of holographic interferometry are explained, and the use of heterodyne interferometry to interpolate between the recorded fringes is described in detail. In a typical application, holograms recorded by exposures with 9-ns Nd:YAG laser pulses before and immediately after excitation of SAWs can be analyzed with resolution about 300 pm using a heterodyne readout system.
