An optical discharge in low-density air containing solid inclusions
Abstract
The effect of air pressure in the range 25-743 mm Hg on the dynamics of an optical discharge plasma initiated on a thin tungsten filament by 1.06-micron laser emission is investigated experimentally. In particular, the transmission of the discharge plasma and the plasma formation threshold in an aerosol medium are determined as a function of the air pressure. It is shown that as the air pressure decreases from 743 to 100 mm Hg, the transmission of the discharge plasma increases from 0.355 to 0.92.
