The period distribution of binaries - predecessors of planetary nebulae.
Abstract
The possibility to determine parameters of a binary system in which a planetary nebula originated from the nebula shape is considered. It is shown that the distribution of observed shapes of planetary nebulae by ellipticities may be explained if the nebulae originate in binary systems. The effect of the mass ratio distribution of binary systems on the distribution of planetary nebula shapes by ellipticities is small. The binary systems distribution by periods is derived and discussed.
