The rotation of planets with satellites
Abstract
American probes have made it possible to measure accurately the masses of many satellites of the planets. A rule-of-thumb relation has been observed to hold between the masses and frequencies of revolution of the satellites, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, the mass and frequency of rotation of the planets around which they gravitate. Using this relation, the author presents some estimates concerning the mass of Saturn's ring.
