A calculation method for significant degeneracies and some fluid-mechanical applications
Abstract
A method for the calculation of the significant degeneracies of Ecklaus (1979) is presented for a class of commonly encountered physical problems. The method enables numerical computation of the boundary layer equations for a given singular perturbation problem. The method is demonstrated for: (1) solution of the complete Navier-Stokes equations for viscous incompressible flow along an obstacle at high Reynolds number; (2) solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for the viscous incompressible flow around a moving sphere; and (3) solution of the Marble equations for the flow of a suspension of small solid particles at high Reynolds number.
