Similar steady and unsteady flows of inelastic fluid over axisymmetric bodies
Abstract
The similarity of steady and unsteady laminar boundary layers of power-law non-Newtonian fluid over axisymmetric bodies is studied, with the curvature effect of a thin body considered. Conditions for the existence of similar flow are first established and families of such flow are subsequenntly obtained. It is found that both body shape and free-stream velocity in general depend upon the flow index n. In spite of this dependence, there are many cases which are physically realistic. Results for several examples of steady and unsteady flows are presented.
