On excitation of electric fields and currents in the ionosphere from the energetic view point.
Abstract
An energy relationship is obtained which expresses global energy release due to Joule dissipation through a dynamo field and field-aligned currents (the sources of the problem). In a particular case, this relationship yields an exhaustive solution to the problem of current excitation. It is demonstrated that the investigation of ionospheric winds on the basis of ground magnetic data is not completely correct when the winds are assumed to be potential.
