Narrow-linewidth fibre laser with integral fibre grating
Abstract
The fabrication and operation of an Nd(3+) doped silica single-mode fiber laser using a distributed fiber grating as the feedback element is reported. The laser had a threshold of less than 2 mW, a slope efficiency of 19 percent and an output bandwidth at the lasing wavelength of 1.084 micron of 16 GHz, significantly narrower than the conventional cavity design.
