Magnetoelastic amorphous metal fluxgate magnetometer
Abstract
A fluxgate magnetometer is presented which exploits the magnetic field dependence to the stress-driven magnetization fluctuations in magnetostrictive metallic glass ribbons. A magnetometer constructed with an unannealed ribbon, a piezoelectric ceramic driving element, and a 100-turn pick-up coil exhibits a minimum detectable magnetic field of 15 nT/sq rt Hz in the dc to 1 Hz bandwidth.
