Application of variational principle for calculation of resonant frequencies of cylindrical dielectric resonators
Abstract
A new method for calculating resonant frequencies of cylindrical dielectric resonators using the variational principle is presented. The method consists of simultaneously solving equations for the propagation and attenuation constants at each resonator region and for the initial estimation of the resonant frequency. The variational equation is then used to compute the desired frequency. This method is applicable to determine the resonant frequencies of both isolated and shielded cylindrical dielectric resonators. Computations for all modes are presented.
