Hypervelocity motion of bodies in a hydrogen-air mixture
Abstract
The motion of projectiles (spherically blunted cylinders) in a stochiometric mixture of hydrogen and air was studied in a ballistic facility. A flow regime with a bow detonation wave propagating in the Chapman-Jouget regime was observed experimentally for the first time. The results are of interest in connection with the ignition of fuel mixtures by hypervelocity projectiles.
