Lidar method of measurement of atmospheric extinction and ozone profiles
Abstract
A technique for estimating atmospheric extinction and O3 profiles from simultaneous Raman lidar O2 and N2 profiles is developed analytically. The procedures to be followed in acquiring pairs of O2/N2 profiles (e.g., at 500 and 481.4 nm), calibrating the instruments, and performing the computations are discussed, and the advantages offered by the normally high S/N values of O2/N2 profiles are indicated.
