Pulsed Very High Energy Gamma Rays from the COS B Source 2CG 006-00
Abstract
Evidence of transient emission of gamma rays in the TeV range from the pulsar suspect PSR 1802-23, situated within the error box of the COS B source 2CG 006-00, is presented. The observations indicate that the pulsar emitted pulsed, very high energy gamma rays on six occasions over a one-month period during 1985 at a period of 112.55. The period derivative of about 10 to the -13th s/s places this pulsar in the same category as the Crab and Vela pulsars with respect to its age. It is doubtful that this pulsar is the source of the 100 MeV gamma rays from 2CG 006-00.
